The judge in R. Kelly's child pornography case recently delayed the trial, asking prosecutors to re-determine the time period that Kelly's alleged child sex tape was recorded.
Chicago lawyers have accused the R&B singer of recording the tape between November 1, 1997 and February 1, 2002.The girl in question would have been 13 to 17-years-old in that period. Judge Vincent Gaughan has decided that the time frame is too long for Kelly to determine an alibi.
"That's two million, two hundred and thirty thousand minutes and change," Gaughan said. "That has to be resolved." The judge ordered the 51-month period to be narrowed down by July 20th.
Kelly's child pornography case was supposed to go to trial later this month but due to this new setback it may be delayed until the fall. Kells wasn't charged with statutory rape, but if convicted of all 14 counts of the child pornography, he could face 15 years in state prison, a $100,000 fine, and must register as a sex offender.
Just last week the R&B star was also accused of secretly videotaping a woman while having sex. She has filed invasion of privacy claims against the singer and says that footage from the tape is on the Internet.
The Judge in this case has ordered Kelly to give a deposition addressing the issue but he will not have to do so until after his child pornography trial.
