After a two year absence, Missy Elliot is reaching out to new producers and getting personal on her sixth album, The Cookbook.
After almost exclusively working with Timbaland for her first five albums, Missy's latest LP only features a couple of tracks from the Virginia producer.
"It gets a little harder for the both of us because the pressure is on from the previous album. This time I decided to get other producers to give a different vibe, but at the same time I check in with him. His involvement is still there," Missy stated.
Tim provides heat on the Mike Jones-assisted "Joy" and "Partytime." Meanwhile, other producers like red hot Richard Harrison and Pharrell Williams contribute tracks while Ciara and Fat Man Scoop make guest appearances. Aside from a production change, Missy also gets personal on "My Struggles." The track details how a younger Missy witnessed her father physically abuse her mother.
"Those memories still haunt me to this day," Missy told the New York Post. "You never forget. I remember when I was 4 years old my dad stomped my mom in the face with his combat boots. I used to cry to my mom every day. I was scared to stay in other people's houses because I thought I'd come back home and she'd be dead."
Missy also spoke to the Post on constant rumors surrounding her sexual orientation and reports linking her to America's Next Top Model winner Eva Pigford.
"People don't see me doin' nothing or being with anybody so they wanna dig," Missy offered. "Who's gonna be next Halle Berry? Oprah? People love negativity. They love gossip."
